Boyd places 20th at Peoria meet

In a field of 408 runners, Mahomet-Seymour’s Ava Boyd placed 20th on Saturday (Sept. 10) in the Class 2A division of First to Finish girls’ cross-country meet at Peoria’s  Detweiller Park.

Boyd’s 3-mile time was 18 minutes, 51.6 seconds.

Chole Bundren ran 83rd and posted a season personal best of 20:25.3.

Other Bulldogs who ran in the varsity race were Hadley Grotelueschen (217th in 22:37.5), Lauren Bednar (224th in 22:43.1), Morgan Waisath (236th in 22:52.2), Jinan Abdo (241st in season-best 22:54.8), Callie Jansen (245th in 22:58.8), Ava Jansen (272nd in 23:36.2), Camryn Nelson (274th in 23:38.2) and Emmaline Culp (283rd in 23:47.2).

The Bulldogs placed 27th in the 47-school field with 714 points. Meet champion Lake Villa had a score of 118 points.

“While we have a nice pack of runners rounding out our varsity squad, we will be working to narrow the gap between our 2nd and 3rd-5th runners in order to become much more competitive as the season progresses,” M-S coach Jama Grotelueschen said.

There was an open race for any girls not in the varsity race and 597 runners finished.

Competing for M-S were: Emma Frazier (227th in 24:44.7), Grace Bednar (252nd in season-best 25:07.6), Hannah Hofbauer (315th in 25:53.3), McKenzie Hissong (326th in 26:02.2), Meg Turner (354th in 26:24.7), Isabelle Scheele (363rd in 26:31.3), Phoebe Truax (368th in 26:35.6) and Gabby Reeves (530th in 30:46.9).

There were 597 finishers.

M-S ended 35th in the 43-school field with a score of 972. First-place Naperville North had a score of 37 points.

M-S returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 17) in the Richard Spring Invitational, in Peoria.
