Both MSJHS boys’ basketball teams pick up three wins

Jackson Golden hit the 20-point mark for the first time this season for the Mahomet-Seymour eighth-grade boys’ basketball team on Thursday (Dec. 7) as the undefeated Bulldogs raced past visiting Urbana, 54-37.

Golden delivered a game-high 21 points. Tristen Adams wound up with 16 points, including 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Other point-makers for M-S were Luke Buh (four points), Preston Clark (four points), Konner Fisher (three points), Camden Beedy (two points), Colin Hammerschmidt (two points), Brennan Bailey (one point) and Levi Lunney (one point).

M-S led 14-7 after one period and 24-15 at halftime.

On Saturday (Dec. 9) at home, M-S topped Clinton, 59-30. The Bulldogs created a 24-4 advantage after one quarter and led at halftime, 46-14.

Golden netted all 18 of his game-high points in the first half. Adams and Fisher each tallied 10 points.

Other point-makers for the Bulldogs were Bradley Jones (six points), Clark (five points), Lunney (three points), Jackson Tieffel (three points), Buh (two points) and Hammerschmidt (two points).

Hitting baskets from three-point range were Clark, Fisher, Lunney and Tieffel.

On Tuesday (Dec. 12), the Bulldogs won at St. Joseph, 50-25, led by Golden’s game-high 16 points.

M-S fell behind, 14-11, after one quarter, but had surged into a 27-23 lead at halftime. Golden hit eight of his points to spark the second-period comeback.

Adams added 10 points, Clark made eight points, Hammerschmidt had seven points and Jones ended with three points. Making two points apiece were Fisher, Wil Selk and Tieffel.

Golden and Clark each nailed two three-pointers. Jones made one long-distance shot.

The Bulldogs are 14-0 overall.

The M-S seventh-graders also remained unbeaten with a 58-23 win at home over Urbana on Thursday (Dec. 7).

Nathan Stabler led the way with 18 points. A.J. Fenelus produced 15 points and Jaxson Tiefenthaler connected for 12 points.

Also reaching the scoring column were Will Martin (six points), Jackson Dancer (five points) and Caleb Knox (two points).

The Bulldogs shot into a 16-5 lead after one quarter and extended the margin to 32-14 at halftime.

On Saturday (Dec. 9), the Bulldogs zoomed into a 23-0 lead after one quarter and handled visiting Clinton, 50-17. The visitors were also held scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Evan Franz knocked down four three-point shots en route to a season-high 13 points. Stabler hit 11 points while Knox and Tiefenthaler each contributed six points.

Also reaching the scoring column were Fenelus (four points), Martin (four points), Landon Benner (two points), Stephane Mwilambwe (two points) and Tyler Schoudel (one point).

The other three-point marksman for the team besides Franz was Knox, who connected on one.

On Tuesday (Dec. 12), M-S topped St. Joseph, 40-19 in a road game.

Fenelus led the way with 18 points. Stabler tallied 10 points and Tiefenthaler wound up with five points. Schoudel contributed three points. Both Knox and Martin finished with two points.

Fenelus knocked down two three-pointers and Schoudel made one.

The Bulldogs led 9-3 after one quarter and carried a 19-8 lead into the halftime break.

The M-S seventh-graders are also 14-0.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday (Dec. 14) at home against Champaign Edison.
