Board votes speed limit changes on parts of Crowley and Prairieview Roads

Speed limits on a half-mile section of Prairieview Road and Crowley Road from State Street north of the I-74 overpass are set to change in the near future.

With curb and gutter additions along Prairieview Road just south of IL Route 150 this summer, the Village will follow the 40 mph requirement set forth by State law.

The Village has received a number of complaints and worries about traffic coming from the north on the rural Crowley Road. Although the Buffalo Trace trailhead comes out near Crowley Road, the speed limit remained at 50 mph until vehicles crossed the overpass beside Mahomet-Seymour High School.

Mayor Patrick Brown said vehicles travel too fast runners, bicyclists and walkers who use Crowley Road to access the trailhead.

The speed limit will now decrease in 10 mph increments north of the Buffalo Trace trailhead from 50 mph to 30 mph at the overpass. The 20 mph school zone speed limit will still be enforced near Mahomet-Seymour High School.
