Athlete of the Week: Kylie Fuoss

As a freshman interested in acting, Kylie Fuoss did not know where she would find opportunities at Mahomet-Seymour to hone her craft.

By the time she became a sophomore, the opportunity to perform on the Mahomet-Seymour speech team became available.

“I’ve stayed with speech because it has helped me grow with my acting and I love the environment our team has,” Fuoss said.

As one of the last inaugural members of the team, Fuoss has helped to craft a team that is not only growing in membership but talent.

In the 2020-21 season, Fuoss has led the team with a Humorous Interpretation and Poetry Program that showcase her acting abilities. But, those performances have had to be performed virtually.

“Going from in-person to virtual meets has been interesting this year,” she said.  “Performing is mostly the same but I don’t get to interact or watch many other performances, sadly.”

While her senior year did not include all the gatherings she would have liked, Fuoss said that she’s grateful for the opportunity to end her time on the speech team this way.

“I love the speech team because of the people who participate; they are all so welcoming and creative,” she said.  “As a senior this year I would have loved to add team gatherings outside of practice, sadly that wasn’t  possible. Speech Team has been such a lovely experience.”

Having the experience of working with head coach Ally Sanborn has also left a mark.

“Coach Sanborn has been an amazing help throughout my speech team career,” Fuoss said. “We have built a great connection over the past three years and she has seen me grow so much.”
