Senior Quinton McCullough registered Mahomet-Seymour’s first double-double of the boys’ basketball season on Tuesday (Feb. 9) as the Bulldogs earned a 72-54 Apollo Conference triumph at Mount Zion.

The point total was a season-high for M-S, which has won back-to-back road games after starting the season with a loss.

The 6-foot-3 McCullough nailed 11 of the 13 shots he took en route to a game-high 24 points. He also pulled down 12 rebounds.

Eli Warren reached double figures for the third game in a row. He tallied 17 points and also handed out eight assists.

“Both seniors were key in making big plays to open our lead and close late,” M-S coach Ryan Bosch said.

Braden Finch dropped 15 points, and made three of his six baskets from three-point range.

The Bulldogs held a slender 31-25 halftime lead, but took control with a 21-14 third-quarter run.

“We were able to pull away late for the victory, but the score was much closer for much of the game as Mount Zion competed really hard and made it a long and difficult night for us to get into any sort of rhythm,” Bosch said.

Zach Severns (five rebounds) and Blake Wolters (four rebounds) were active on the boards.

The Bulldogs were without three players who had scored points in the team’s first two games.

“We were short-handed, but the guys available were resilient in finding a way to get a road win in these conditions,” Bosch said.
