Ryken Kirby and Jayvon Irwin Lead Mahomet-Seymour to Victory at Spartan Classic

Mahomet-Seymour’s Ryken Kirby was the winner in the long jump on Friday (April 26) in the 24-school Spartan Classic boys’ track and field meet, in St. Joseph.

Kirby’s winning leap was 19 feet, 7 inches. There were 42 competitors in the event.

Jayvon Irwin was the winner of the 100 meters, a race with 42 entries. Irwin’s time was 11.01 seconds.

Results were only available for 15 of the 18 events. No information was provided on the 200-meter dash, the 1,600 meters and the 1,600-meter relay.

Other Bulldogs with top-eight placements individually were Ty Clark (second in the pole vault at 14 feet), Travis Hoffman (second in the 300-meter hurdles in a personal-best 40.75 seconds), Kaleb Kasper (second in the 3,200 meters in a personal-best 10:05.45), Zach Wilcoski (third in the 3,200 meters in a personal-best 10:15.26), Seth Christiansen (fifth in the pole vault at 11 feet, 5 inches) and Trevor Reeves (eighth in the discus at 125 feet, 1 inch).

The Bulldogs had four relays which also excelled.

M-S was third in both the 800- and 3,200-meter relays.

The 800 foursome featured Irwin, Alex O’Brian, Dylan Smith and Kirby. Their cumulative time was 1:32.54.

The 3,200 grouping included Kaden Jackson, Lukas Carey, Henry McMurry and Ethan Ramirez. They were timed in 8:24.16.

The Bulldogs’ 400-meter relay, consisting of Hoffman, Irwin, Kirby and O’Brian, wound up in fourth place with a time of 43.80 seconds.

Placing eighth was the M-S freshmen-sophomore 400-meter relay of Tristan Nilson, Henry Carpenter, Camden Snodsmith and Steffen Kellner. Their cumulative time was 46.85 seconds.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday (May 2) at Mattoon in the Apollo Conference meet.
