Wheeler scores six goals, leading M-S over Urbana

Senior Nolan Wheeler registered a double hat trick – six goals – on Monday (Sept. 25) as the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ soccer team upended Urbana, 7-2, at Middletown Field.

Wheeler has a team-high 23 goals for the season.

“His speed and physicality presented a tough matchup for Urbana,” Bulldog coach Jeremy Davis said. “Great team win for the Bulldogs.

“Ian Dobrucki and Alex O’Brian had another strong night in the back for the Bulldogs.”

The other M-S goal came from Isaac Warren, who also contributed two assists.

Kia Jones also totaled two assists for the Bulldogs. Teammates with one assist were Brody Back, Travis Hoffman and Brian Woodbury.

On Friday (Sept. 22), M-S dropped a 4-0 decision at home to Glenbard North.

On Thursday (Sept. 21), the Bulldogs thumped Taylorville, 9-0, in an Apollo Conference match in Taylorville.

Warren (four goals) and Colin Jackson (three goals) each produced hat tricks.

Also tallying goals for M-S were Jones and Cohen DiFilippo.

Warren’s outstanding effort also featured four assists. Jones collected three assists. Jackson and Tate Kimball both had one assist.

The Bulldogs (9-2-4 overall and 5-0-1 in Apollo matches) return to action on Thursday (Sept. 28) at Charleston.
