Village of Mahomet Moves ADA Transition Plan Update to Consent Agenda

The Village of Mahomet has advanced its updated Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan to the consent agenda for final approval on April 22.

The 2025 update to the ADA Transition Plan focuses on improving sidewalk ramps within public rights-of-way, addressing non-compliant areas, and maintaining existing accessible infrastructure. The plan also prioritizes safety and connectivity, particularly near schools and high-traffic pedestrian areas.

Since its inception, the plan has been integrated into the Village’s multi-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), allocating annual funding for ADA-related projects. From 2019 to 2024, an average of $80,000 per year has been invested in ADA improvements, including standalone projects and upgrades integrated into broader infrastructure initiatives.

Many older subdivisions in Mahomet were built before ADA standards were established, resulting in a mix of compliant and non-compliant infrastructure. The updated plan emphasizes retrofitting non-compliant ramps and sidewalks while maintaining existing accessible features. Long-term goals include expanding the sidewalk network to close gaps and improve access to parks and public spaces.
