Seven Mahomet-Seymour students earn honors at Speech Competition

The Mahomet-Seymour Speech team is poised for the IHSA Sectional Competition on Feb. 8.

The Bulldogs completed their sixth tournament of the season at Heyworth High School on Feb. 1.

Thirteen Mahomet-Seymour High School students competed in 18 events at the tournament. Eighteen schools were in attendance.

Nine of the Mahomet-Seymour entries advanced to the final round of the competitions; seven students received honors in their individual events.

Miranda Morrissette (6th place Varsity Poetry and 2nd place JV Impromptu Speaking);
Savannah Smith (6th place JV Impromptu Speaking);
Averhy Sanborn (3rd place JV Oratorical Declamation and 2nd place JV Prose reading);
Mallory Fonte (5th place JV Original Comedy);
Nick Harfst (6th place JV Informative Speaking);
Audrey Boateng (5th place JV Prose reading);
Kiana Bailey (6th place JV Humorous Interpretation).

Tadeo Ruiz, Kylie Fuoss, Joshua Park, Jenna Ledin, Penny Sheridan, and Zoe Hovde also competed in several events.

Students will compete again on Feb. 8 at the IHSA Regional Competition in Normal IL.
