Registration Open for Champaign County Forest Preserve 2024 Summer Camp Lineup

The Champaign County Forest Preserve is thrilled to announce its 2024 summer camp programs, inviting children and teens to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature and the richness of history. With registration opening on March 6 at 8:00am, these camps promise a summer filled with exploration, learning, and unforgettable memories.

Historical Roots & Garden Shoots at the Museum of the Grand Prairie in Lake of the Woods is a unique camp blending history with gardening. From July 9 to July 30, kids aged 6-12 will embark on a journey through time and nature. Each Tuesday, they’ll explore a different ecosystem, learning about its plants, people, and how to incorporate native plants into their own gardens. The camp is priced at $40.

Eco-adventures Day Camp offers a more flexible schedule with sessions at Homer Lake and Lake of the Woods from July 9 to August 2. Tailored for children aged 3 to 11, this camp delves into local wildlife, Illinois’ state symbols, and the historical and future aspects of Central Illinois’ ecosystems. Campers will enjoy a blend of educational activities and relaxation techniques, all for a fee of $40.

For young golf enthusiasts, Junior Golf Clinics and a Junior Golf Camp at Lake of the Woods Golf Course present an excellent opportunity to learn the game. Starting in June, these clinics and camp offer varying levels of instruction for ages 8-17, with prices ranging from $50 to $150. The programs emphasize skill development, golf etiquette, and the enjoyment of the sport.

The Teen Outdoor Survival Camp at Middle Fork River Forest Preserve, available on June 25 or 26, is designed for teens aged 12-17. For $25, participants can master survival skills such as fire starting, shelter building, and orienteering, promoting teamwork and a connection with nature.

Lastly, the Past to Present Games Camp and Wilderness Explorers provide a more casual and diverse experience. With minimal fees of $10, these one-day camps offer a variety of activities from exploring the evolution of games to nature expeditions across different preserve locations.

Sara Gonzalez, a camp coordinator, expressed excitement about the upcoming summer, “We’re eager to welcome campers to our programs. It’s not just about fun; it’s about creating a lifelong appreciation for our world’s history and natural beauty.”
