The Mahomet-Seymour School District is reporting an additional COVID-19 positive case on their website Wednesday morning, although no release of information has been made.
Three more students or staff have also been exposed to COVID-19 and will be placed in quarantine per the Mahomet-Seymour “Return to School Health Plan for Families.”
Superintendent Lindsey Hall said one positive case is due to exposure of COVID-19 in a Mahomet-Seymour School.
The Mahomet-Seymour COVID-19 dashboard shows that the two cases at Middletown Prairie on the first day of school (Aug. 19) resulted in 16 students quarantined on the first day. Five additional students or staff were quarantined between August 22 and 27.
A positive case of a staff member at Lincoln Trail on Sept. 4 led to 9 staff and 4 students being quarantined. Another case at Middletown resulted in 2 students being quarantined. On Sept. 8, four additional students or staff were exposed.
Hall said there is no connection between the cases at Middletown Prairie.
The district has had trouble finding subs for the teachers who are out due to COVID-19; Hall said that is nothing unusual, though, the district had trouble finding subs prior to the pandemic.
As of Sept. 9 there have been five total positive COVID-19 cases in the Mahomet-Seymour School District and 43 total students or staff have been quarantined. There are nine active cases of COVID-19 in area code 61853.
Overall, Hall feels like things are going well.
“We are in communication regularly with CUPHD. With each new case, we learn more and become more efficient. Our relationship with CUPHD is great, they are very helpful and supportive,” she said.
