New stoplight in Mahomet at Lake of the Woods Rd. and IL-150

A new traffic signal in Mahomet is nearly ready to illuminate.

Located at the intersection of Lake of the Woods Rd. and Oak St. (IL-150), the $300,000 project will be completed on Oct. 20, according to the signs near the construction area.

The Village of Mahomet and Solace Apartments developers will split the cost of the project, along with the cost of the multi-purpose path that will connect Barber Park to the existing route along Lake of the Woods Rd.

Village Engineer Ellen Hedrick said that part of the plan will be to realign that intersection with McDougal Rd. moving the connection to IL-150 farther east. It’s part of an extended CIP plan that will come to fruition in a few years. The Village and Solace will also split the cost of road improvements.

Until that time, visitors at Barber Park are still encouraged to use McDougal Rd. to access that park. Hedrick said that being between two traffic signals should help provide gaps in traffic so that those exiting McDougal will be able to access IL-150. An alternative route for those turning left would be to take Pin Oak to Sunny Acres where the visibility is better.

The parking lot of Solace is private infrastructure and is only accessible to residents.
