Mahomet-Seymour tennis picks up win over Schlarman Academy

Mahomet-Seymour won four of the six singles matches and clinched the girls’ tennis dual-meet victory against Schlarman Academy by winning one doubles match on Thursday (Sept. 1) at the Illini Grove Tennis Courts.
M-S prevailed, 5-4.
In singles, the Bulldogs’ winners were Emily Young (No. 2), Holland Martin (No. 3), Adella Bird (No. 5) and Ashley Shoaf (No. 6).
Young edged Vivian Ludwig, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. Martin rallied past Madi Watson, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 10-8.
Bird swept past Anna Lehmann, 6-2, 7-5, and Shoaf, overpowered Evy Kelsey, 6-2, 6-2.
The meet-clinching win was courtesy of the M-S No. 3 doubles head of Shoaf and Bird, who topped Karlee Belton and Teresa La, 8-3.
Dropping a tough three-set match was Claire Johnson (No. 4 singles).
M-S (2-2) returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 6) against Champaign Central at the Illini Grove courts.
