Mahomet-Seymour Junior High baseball remains unbeaten

Mahomet-Seymour maintained its unbeaten start to the junior high baseball season on Monday with a 6-1 victory at St. Joseph.

The Bulldogs have played – and won – each of their first three games.

Leadoff batter Camden Heinold sparked the offense against St. Joseph. He was 3-for-4 and stole a base.

M-S totaled 11 hits, including two by Nolan Sanderson.

Teammates with one hit apiece were Gavin Bailey, Tyson Finch, Mason Orton, Lucas Dyer, Nolan Frantz and Henry Wagner.

Peyton Cox pitched five innings of three-hit ball and earned his second win. He walked three and struck out five.

Dyer was summoned for the final two innings and didn’t surrender any hits. He walked one and fanned two.

In the M-S home opener on Thursday (Aug. 20), the Bulldogs topped Mount Zion 11-1.

Nolan Johnson was the winning pitcher. He worked five innings, yielding one hit and no earned runs. Johnson struck out five.

He was supported by an offense that scored twice in the first inning and then gave him an 8-1 lead after three innings.

Heinold was 2-for-3, and scored three runs. Teammates with two hits were Bailey and Orton. Bailey drove in four runs and Orton had two RBI.

Bailey belted a double and a triple.

In all, 11 M-S players either scored runs or collected at least one hit.

M-S returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 27) at 4:30 against Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
