Mahomet-Seymour Baseball Splits Homestand 2-2, Showcases Strong Performances

After playing its first five games on the road, the Mahomet-Seymour baseball team ended the week with a four-game homestand and compiled a 2-2 mark in those games.

In the home-opener on Wednesday (March 27), the Bulldogs overpowered Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 16-1.

The following night, on Thursday (March 28), St. Joseph-Ogden scored three runs in the seventh inning to edge the Bulldogs, 3-1.

On Saturday (March 30) M-S split two games in its own round-robin event, losing to Lincoln, 3-2, but defeating Carmel, 5-2.

Bulldogs Gavin Bailey and Camden Heinold were the only squad members with hits in all four games. Bailey was 7-for-11 for the week, with two doubles.

Heinold was 5-for-10.

Against PBL, Bailey and Raymond Long pounded two hits. Both players delivered three RBI. Nolan Johnson also knocked in three runs batted in and swatted his first home run of the season.

Tyson Finch and Finn Randolph ended with two RBI. Bailey, Finch, Heinold, Johnson and Randolph all scored two runs.

Max Young pitched all four innings. He walked no one and struck out eight batters.

Miles Woolsey accounted for the lone run against SJ-O, hitting a solo home run. Bailey had two hits.

Randolph was the hard-luck loser. He pitched 6 2/3 innings and yielded one earned run. He walked one and fanned three.

Against Lincoln, Alec Bergman took the loss. In three innings, he walked two and struck out four.

Johnson worked four innings and walked two hitters. He fanned seven.

Bailey and Long both had two hits against the Railsplitters. Bailey scored twice and Long drove in two runs.

Against Carmel, Mason Orton picked up the win. In six innings, he issued two walks and fanned nine hitters. Cade Starrick got the last two outs, striking out both hitters that he faced.

Bailey and Long each socked two hits. Long delivered two RBI. Bailey tallied two runs.

M-S (6-3) will return to action on Monday (April 1) at Effingham St. Anthony.
