Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Ava Boyd


Ava Boyd’s remarkable journey this season was highlighted by her stellar performance at the Apollo Conference. Ava outkicked her close competitor, Mount Zion senior Renee Ballard, to clinch the Apollo Conference girls’ cross-country championship. Her victory marked a significant milestone, as she progressed from third place as a sophomore to second as a junior, culminating in her triumphant first-place finish as a senior.

The IHSA Sectional meet further established Ava as a force to be reckoned with. Ava led the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ team with a commendable eighth-place finish in a field of 65 competitors, clocking in at 19 minutes, 7.40 seconds over the 3-mile course. Her performance extended her running career at Mahomet-Seymour, qualifying her for the IHSA State meet.

Ava’s season has been marked by a series of outstanding performances:

-At the Charleston Invitational, she placed third with a time of 18:52.05.
-She set a personal record at the Light It Up Cross-Country Meet, finishing in 18:35.95.
-Her exceptional run at the Finish to Finish Invitational saw her complete the course in 18:02.80.
-At the Richard Spring Invitational, she set a new personal best of 17:43.20, shaving nearly 19 seconds off her previous record.
-In the muddy terrain of the East Peoria Invitational, she clocked 19:21.40.
-She showcased her prowess at the Gene Jones Runnin’ Red Invitational with a time of 17:50.10.

Boyd has committed to running for the University of Illinois.
