Mabery Gelvin Botanical Gardens to be dressed in pink for breast cancer awareness

It seems that COVID-19 is the one disease everyone is talking about in 2020.

But the Champaign County American Cancer Society knows that other diseases, including breast cancer, continue to threaten people’s lives, too.

While the group cannot host their annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event at Meadowbrook Park due to COVID restrictions, they are not giving up on education of awareness this year.

From Oct. 16 to 18, the Mabery Gelvin Botanical Garden in Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve will be decorated in pink.

“We are encouraging all who feel comfortable to grab their pink gear and head out over the weekend to walk at their leisure, remember those we’ve lost and celebrate the advancements we’ve made,” Anna Peters, a Champaign County American Cancer Society representative said.

On October 18 at 12 p.m. EST Strides Across America will host a virtual public celebration from communities and supporters across the nation.
