Free Children’s Orthopedic Assessment Clinic by Champaign-Urbana Elks and Illinois Elks Children’s Care

The Champaign-Urbana Elks Lodge 2497, in a heartwarming collaboration with the Illinois Elks Children’s Care Corporation, is set to host a free orthopedic assessment clinic for children. This special event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. It will be held at the OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois Multi-Specialty Clinic at OSF HealthCare Heart of Mary Medical Center, located at 1405 West Park Street, Suite 306, Urbana.

The clinic, led by Dr. James McKechnie, offers a vital service to the community, particularly for children experiencing bone and joint issues. It’s an excellent opportunity for parents to have their children’s orthopedic health evaluated, especially if there are concerns about feet alignment, back, knee, leg, ankle pain, or back curvature. This service is invaluable for early detection and management of potential orthopedic issues.

Appointments are required for this clinic and can be made by calling the Illinois Elks Children’s Care office at 1-800-272-0074, Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The organizers stress that there are absolutely no charges for any services provided at this clinic, ensuring it is accessible to all.

The Elks have a long history of supporting physically challenged children, dating back to 1928. This clinic in Urbana is one of 15 such locations across Illinois. The organization’s commitment to helping children extends beyond diagnostic services. They also offer financial assistance for further treatment and specialty equipment for families who lack the resources, including therapy services, corrective shoes, braces, wheelchairs, and communication devices.

No medical referral is necessary to attend the clinic, making it easily accessible to all. However, physicians and school nurses are encouraged to refer patients and students who might benefit from a specialized orthopedic assessment.

This clinic represents a significant contribution of the Elks Organization to the health and wellbeing of children in the community. It’s a testament to their dedication to ensuring that no child is left behind due to physical challenges or financial constraints.
