Champaign County Forest Preserve District cancels programs and closes indoor facilities through April 12

The Champaign County Forest Preserve District has been closely monitoring information related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and will be taking the following precautions to ensure the safety of preserve visitors and staff.

All educational and public programs and events scheduled between March 14 and April 12, 2020 have been canceled. In addition, the Museum of the Grand Prairie at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve and the Interpretive Center at Homer Lake Forest Preserve will be closed to the public during this time.

The Harry L. Swartz Campground at Middle Fork River Forest Preserve near Penfield will not open for the season until May 1, rather than its usual April 1 opening date.

At this time, we are working with parties who have rental events scheduled to cancel or postpone those gatherings. Full refunds or credits for future rentals will be provided.

The Lake of the Woods Golf Course will remain open as will our outdoor facilities, open-air shelters, trails, and picnic areas.

As this is a rapidly changing situation, District staff will continue to monitor developments and may adjust closure dates and cancellations. The most up-to-date information can always be found on our website, ccfpd.org, or our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/CCFPD. During business hours, you can reach District staff at (217) 586-3360.
