Bulldog Volleyball heads into end of season with strong record

The season-long unbeaten streak for the eighth-grade Mahomet-Seymour girls’ volleyball team was stopped on Thursday (Feb. 25) at Monticello.

M-S dropped a 25-19, 25-23 decision. The Bulldogs fell behind 6-2 in the first set and trailed 22-14 in the second set.

The Bulldogs did pull into a 23-23 tie in the final set before Monticello reeled off the last two points.

Elle Barker had five kills and two aces for M-S. Addi Eisenmann and Talia Francom added two kills apiece. Francom also had a block.

In their final home match on Monday (March 1), M-S coasted past Mattoon 25-8, 25-7.

It was the 10th win and ninth-two-set sweep for the team this season. The total points allowed (15) were the second fewest of the year.

Francom registered five kills and four blocks. Eisenmann totaled six aces, four kills and two blocks. Barker contributed three kills. Ellie Dallas and Emma Frazier each landed three aces.

The eighth-grade team has a 10-1 season record and concludes regular-season play on Wednesday (March 3) at Charleston.

The seventh-grade M-S Bulldogs registered a two-set sweep at Monticello on Thursday (Feb. 25), 25-19, 25-16.

M-S broke a 14-14 tie in the first set with a sideout followed by a four-point service run by Olivia DeWitt.

In the second set, DeWitt’s eight-point service run sparked the win. The match ended on a kill by Lily Bosworth.

For the match, Ava Yeakel had five kills. Bosworth, Anna Streicher and Ava Hewitt totaled two kills each. Hewitt served up four aces.

In their regular-season home finale, the Bulldogs topped Mattoon 25-13, 25-6 on Monday (March 1).

Yeakel had a nine-point service run in the first set that featured seven aces.

In Set 2, Erin Dallas picked up where Yeakel left off. She reeled off seven points in a row from the service line and six were aces. She ended the match with 10 aces.

Bosworth provided five kills. Hewitt landed three kills to go with four aces. Besides her seven aces, Yeakel had two kills.

The seventh-graders are 9-2 overall and play at Charleston on Wednesday (March 3).
