Want to help break a book domino record?
The Mahomet Public Library needs the help of all hands-on June 28 from 12:30 to 2 as they attempt to break the Illinois’ record for longest book domino line.
The current record is held by Farmington Public Library. Mahomet’s library director, John Howard, worked in Farmington before taking his current position. Under his leadership, Farmington built a 950 book domino line.
By taking over the entire library, Howard hopes that Mahomet can break the Farmington record by over 200 books.
Howard said that in a friendly game between the two towns, Farmington will attempt to break the Mahomet record the following year, then Mahomet will follow again in 2021.
The book line should take about an hour to build.
Library staff and adult volunteers will be available to help young children put books in place along the lines. Howard said he hopes that at least 50 children will show up. Knowing how to set up the line, Howard said sections will be left to the adults to finish to ensure the domino success.
For library staff, putting all the books back in their correct space may be the biggest task.
