Board lowers bid price for Sangamon to $600,000

The Mahomet-Seymour School board lowered the bid price for Sangamon Elementary to $600,000 Thursday morning.

The bid process began in 2015 when the board established the first bid price for Sangamon at $1.8 million. In August of 2015, the board heard from appraiser Steve Whitsitt who said the 3.6 acres property value, after the Village rezoned it as commercial property, was $2.2 million.

A month later the board lowered the bid price to $1.3 million. The price was lowered again to $750,000 before this week’s adjustment.

The next round of bidding will begin on November 20 after the notice has run in local papers for three weeks. Bidding will be open until February 20, 2018.

Sangamon Elementary will close in August 2018 as first and second grade classrooms will ove to Middletown Prairie Elementary.
