Mahomet-Seymour was limited to four hits – two by Maddie Cortez – and dropped a 5-1 softball decision on Thursday (May 12) at Pontiac.
Kenadi Granadino’s single drove in Karley Yergler with the lone M-S run.
Yergler pitched all six innings, allowing six hits and just two earned runs. She walked no one and struck out nine batters.
In the game, Yergler shattered the M-S single-season school record for strikeouts. Her effort raised her total to 222.
The previous mark (217) was set by Alie Tarrant in 2013.
On Saturday (May 14), the Bulldogs split a doubleheader at Mount Zion.
M-S captured a 5-3 win in the first game behind a complete-game, 12-inning performance by Yergler. She struck out 21 batters, walked three and yielded four hits.
Cortez had three hits in the first game and Yergler swatted two hits, including a home run.
The Bulldogs dropped a 9-8 decision in the second game, giving up a walk-off run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Yergler and Madi White each had two hits in Game 2. Yergler clubbed a double and a home run, knocking in three runs.
Jayden Hannah scored two runs.
Yergler continued her assault on the M-S record books.
Her first-game pitching win was her 17th, breaking the single-season mark of 16 set by Tarrant in 2013.
Her two home runs vaulted her into the career lead with 29. The former record was 28 set by 2021 graduate Aubrie Shore.
M-S (19-4) returns to action on Monday (May 16) at home against Danville.
