Wheeler’s picks up hat trick in win over Danville

Junior Nolan Wheeler recorded a hat trick on Saturday (Sept. 24) as the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ soccer team produced an 8-0 non-conference victory at home over Danville.
The Bulldogs led, 5-0, at intermission at Middletown Field.
Isaac Warren netted two goals for M-S while teammate Nick Tjahjadi ended with a goal and an assist.
Other goal-scorers were Travis Hoffman and Mitchell McAnally. Other teammates with assists were Kai Jones with two and Wes Jones with one.
Goalkeeper Zach Beyer finished with his eighth shutout of the season.
On Thursday (Sept. 22), Ian Dobrucki hit two goals and assisted on one as the Bulldogs tamed Taylorville, 5-0, at Middletown Field.
Other goals were by Beyer, Warren and Carson Reed.
Other assists were by Tjahjadi, Mikiah Jones, Eli Stelle and Brian Woodbury.
M-S (11-2-2) faces a three-match week, including two against opponents ranked among the state’s top 15 by maxpreps.
On Monday (Sept. 26), the ninth-ranked Bulldogs play at No. 14 Urbana, which will be the final match before regional seedings are determined. On Thursday (Sept. 29), the team returns home to face Charleston and a Saturday (Oct. 1) date looms, also at home, with sixth-rated Champaign Central.
“The regional is the deepest I have ever seen,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said.
