Watching for trick-or-treaters on Halloween
Halloween is here! And with all the excitement, we want to remind Mahomet drivers to be extra vigilant while children are going to house-to-house looking for their favorite candies.
Here are a few tips:
Make sure your headlights, windshield wipers, turn signals, brakes and tires are properly working so you can see, stop for and help everyone travel around Mahomet.
Don’t drive distracted. Pedestrians will be running for house-to-house and there will be more traffic in your neighborhood on Halloween night. Make sure you are 100-percent focused on the road at all times.
As trick-or-treaters walk from house-to-house, they don’t always use sidewalks or crosswalks, and they are often hard to see as those sections are not lighted. Be prepared to make sudden stops in case kids run out in front of your vehicle unexpectedly.
Follow the road rules by obeying the 20-mph speed limit in subdivisions, make complete stops at stop signs, yield to pedestrians and use your turn signals.
And even though your children may be hopping in and out of the car (especially if it’s cold or rainy), make sure all passengers are buckled up while the vehicle is in motion.
