Warren breaks school scoring record in win over Centennial
By Fred Kroner
Senior Eli Warren broke the Mahomet-Seymour school points record on Saturday (March 27) as the Bulldogs topped Centennial, 4-1, in a non-conference match in Champaign.
Warren had one assist and edged past 2020 graduate Kadyn Jones for the most points in a career with 64. Jones had 63. Warren’s points are based on 33 goals and 31 assists. Warren is also closing in on Jones’ record for career assists, which is 34.
Nate Lundstrom hit two goals and added an assist for M-S. Anthony Ramirez, who moved into the starting lineup earlier in the week, had one goal as did Clayton Gibson.
The Bulldogs held an 18-2 edge in shots on goal.
“The defense again looked strong,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said. “A combination of strong winds and playing on turf for the first time this season led to an uncharacteristic snafu that led to the Centennial goal.”
Among the team’s unheralded players against the Chargers, Davis said, were, “Logan Alt and Greyson Campion (who) were able to put forth a strong effort in a limited amount of time.”
For the season, the Bulldogs have outscored their first six opponents by a combined 33-3 margin.
M-S (4-0-2) returns to action on Monday (March 29) at Urbana.
In Saturday’s junior varsity match, a goal by Isaac Warren sent M-S past Centennial, 1-0.
