Village board approves commercial buildings, multi-family development in Vision South
The Village of Mahomet Board of Trustees approved conditional use permits for three mixed-use commercial buildings and a multiple-family residential development with a clubhouse on Tuesday.
The board saw an updated version of the multi-family development during their regular board meeting after board members expressed concerns about the aesthetics of the roofline, siding, and landscaping a week early. Developer Sean Tabeling came back to the board with a varied roofline, a brick exterior, visitor parking spaces and will follow administration input on landscape when the time comes.
Located on South Patton Drive, the plot was originally approved for 10 single-home units. The development will now include 50 units. The conditional use permit was needed for anything over 16 units.
In the same subdivision, Vision South, the petitioner also asked the board for three commercial use buildings, two more than originally planned, for multi-use. Allowed uses will include church; bank or financial institution; dressmaking, tailoring, shoe repairing, repair of household appliances and bicycles, catering, and other uses of a similar character; office or office buildings; personal service uses including barber shop, beauty parlor, photographic or art studio, newspaper, florist, laundry service, animal grooming and other uses of a similar character; general merchandise retail store, in connection with which there shall be no slaughtering of animals or poultry, nor commercial fish cleaning and processing on the premises; restaurants, cafeterias, bars and taverns, donut/bakery shop and other uses of a similar character; computer and personal electronics sales and repair; private indoor recreational or fitness facility; specialty retail store, such as apparel, jewelry, book, shoe, stationary, antique and other similar stores; dancing or music academy; display and salesroom; laboratory, research, experimental or testing; property rental or real estate agency; grocery store; drive-through or drive-in facility; medical, chiropractic, eye, or dental clinic; heating and air conditioning sales and service; private club or lodge; car wash; convenience store without gasoline sales; bakery for off-site sales; mixed-use; micro-brewery.
Tabeling said he already has a hairstylist interested in occupying one space.
I thought the village put a freeze on multi-family units/ apartments. The village continues to pay no attention to the plught of our schools or property taxes. The village and school district should impose a one time school resource tax of $10,000 per unit.
A new home pays $10,000. A 16 unit apartment multi-family building pays $160,000.
