Varga sets two school records in meet at Charleston

Aron Varga set school records in two events on Saturday (Dec. 4) as the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ swimming team opened the season by winning a four-school meet at Charleston.
Varga was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.62) and the 100-yard backstroke (59.10).
M-S totaled 140 points to outdistance the field. Runner-up Charleston had 95 points and was followed by St. Thomas More (33) and Lincoln (32).
Carter Logsdon and Owens Kearns also won individual events for the Bulldogs.
Logsdon was triumphant in the 200-yard freestyle while Kearns captured top honors in the 500-yard freestyle.
Logsdon added a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Kearns nabbed a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.
Teammates who secured second-place finishes were Mark Guttierez (100-yard breaststroke) and Kam Bartels (200-yard freestyle). Guttierez captured third in the 200-yard individual medley.
Other third-place performers for M-S were Caden Raquel (100-yard butterfly), Aaron Smith (100-yard freestyle) and Sean Summers (500-yard freestyle).
Two M-S relays also swam to victory.
The 200-yard medley unit featured Kearns, Varga, Logsdon and Raquel. The 400-yard freestyle foursome included Varga, Raquel, Smith and Kearns.
M-S (3-0) returns to action on Saturday at Danville in a meet that also includes Bloomington.
