Urbana defeats Mahomet-Seymour Tennis
By Fred Kroner
Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ tennis team won two of three doubles matches on Thursday (Sept. 28), but suffered a 6-3 loss to Urbana at Blair Park.
The Bulldogs’ unbeaten doubles duo of Holland Martin and Adella Bird made Eisla Madigan and Lorelie Yau their 10th consecutive victim, 6-3, 7-5.
Martin and Bird have had just one of their matches at No. 2 doubles extended to three sets this season.
At No. 3 doubles, Ashley Shoaf and Lindsay Gowler, overpowered Alicia Garcia and Grace Coady, 6-1, 6-2.
The Bulldogs lone singles win was secured by Martin, who posted a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Luna Morales at No. 3. Martin owns a team-best 8-1 record in singles with each win in straight sets.
A hard-luck loser for M-S was Emmie Flores at No. 6 singles. She dropped a 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 decision to Coady.
M-S (8-2) returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 3) at home against Taylorville.
