Undefeated Bulldogs ranked 12th in first AP Class 3A state poll

Ivie Juarez poured in 16 first-quarter points on Thursday (Dec. 9) as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team jumped into an early 37-7 lead after eight minutes en route to a 73-17 triumph over Apollo Conference foe Charleston.
Juarez finished with a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds. Seven of her boards were gathered on the offensive end.
M-S had plenty of scoring support as it posted its second conference win by margins exceeding 50 points.
Cayla Koerner hit 14 points, Nichole Taylor totaled nine points and Savannah Orgeron also contributed nine points.
Emma Dallas, Alayna DeWitt and Chloe Pruitt all chipped in with six points. Juarez, Abigail Bunting and Durbin Thomas registered three steals apiece.
The Bulldogs continued their unbeaten start in Apollo Conference play on Saturday (Dec. 11), recording a 58-36 win at Effingham. The Bulldogs are 3-0 in league play.
M-S expanded an 8-7 lead after one quarter into a 26-17 margin at halftime. Koerner netted 10 of her 14 points in the second quarter.
Thomas also finished with 14 points, thanks to sinking a season-high four three-point shots after intermission.
Juarez scored 11 points, Taylor had eight points and Bunting had seven points to go with team-high totals of five rebounds and three steals.
Juarez garnered four rebounds.
M-S (10-0 overall) returns to action on Monday (Dec. 13) at Tolono Unity. The Bulldogs were ranked 12th in the first Associated Press Class 3A state poll.
