After two years serving Champaign County students with at-home tutoring, Tutor Doctor has announced it will open its first storefront at Sangamon on Main.
Since 2017, franchise owners Stephanie and Tom Hess have focused on one-to-one tutoring services designed to help students of all ages with any subject.
While the group will continue to serve Champaign, Urbana, St. Joseph, Decatur, Danville and Tolono, the owners hope with the new location, they will be able to expand their offerings by adding classes for test-prep and summer learning.
Stephanie Hess believes that a former school building is the perfect place for a tutoring environment.
“Although many families enjoy the convenience of tutoring in their home,” Hess said, “this classroom will allow Tutor Doctor to also provide families the convenience of dropping their students off to a distraction-free location for tutoring.”
Tutor Doctor starts with an academic and learning style assessment in order to create a custom program and to find the perfect match between one of their qualified tutors and each student.
In addition to working with the students’ current curriculum, Tutor Doctor’s Academic Game Plan focuses on the development of key executive functions, such as organizational skills, time management, study skills and task prioritization, to help students become high performers in school and in life.
Tutor Doctor also collaborates with the students’ current teacher, while keeping open lines of communication with parents throughout the process.
“Our one-to-one tutoring ensures that each student is given individual focused attention and tools for success,” Hess said. “It also provides our tutors the satisfaction of seeing their students reach their goals. It’s exciting for our tutors, too.”
In addition to providing school-age students with tutoring in various subjects, many families also hire Tutor Doctor to help students get ahead and prepare for more advanced challenges, such as honors classes that could help them get into a preferred college or university.
With the launch of its ACT/SAT Program, students now have access to the best one-to-one, in-home test preparation.
Tutor Doctor has also proven valuable for the rapidly growing home-schooled population, as well as for senior citizens wanting to learn technology skills.
Tutor Doctor invites the Mahomet community to a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 5:30 p.m. followed by an Open House until 7 p.m.
