Turk breaks school record, M-S takes first at Danville

Mahomet-Seymour girls’ swimming improved its season record to 13-3 by winning a triangular meet in Danville on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs totaled 114 points and outscored the host Vikings (94 points) and Charleston (54 points).

M-S had a record-shattering performance from diver Payton Turk. She broke the school record score for six dives, accumulating 169.85 points.

The Bulldogs were also triumphant in three other events, including double wins from Eden Oelze, who won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly.

Teammate Miranda Marcelli was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Two M-S relays also registered winning performances.

Members of the 200-yard medley were Olivia McMurry, Olivia Ross, Oelze and Marcelli.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team consisted of McMurry, Marcelli, Kate Raver and Oelze.

Six other Bulldog swimmers posted either second- or third-place finishes.

McMurry was the runner-up in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke.

Marcelli was second in the 50-yard freestyle. Carly Raver capped a 1-2 Bulldog finish in diving with her second-place effort and Kate Raver was second in the 200-yard freestyle.

Also, Skye Rodgers was third in the 50-yard freestyle and Anna Lagacy was third in the 100-yard breaststroke.

M-S returns to action on Saturday at Eastern Illinois University against Apollo Conference foes Lincoln and Charleston.
