Trump Sets Goal: 100 More GOP Congressional Seats Through Redistricting and Mail Voting Ban

Former President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he wants Republicans to gain 100 additional congressional seats.

In his post, Trump claimed that combining aggressive redistricting efforts by Republican-led states with a nationwide halt to mail-in voting could secure this dramatic increase in seats for his party.

Trump wrote, “If we do these TWO things, we will pick up 100 more seats, and the CROOKED game of politics is over.” He praised Texas, where a new congressional map passed by the state House is expected to give Republicans five more seats. Trump also highlighted ongoing or planned redistricting efforts in states like Florida and Indiana and urged other GOP-controlled legislatures to take similar actions.

In response to Texas’s new GOP-favoring maps, Democratic-led California is moving forward with its own plan to give Democrats an edge by revising its congressional districts, which will go to voters in a special election this November.

New York may join the fight.

“Trump, Greg Abbott and their allies know they can’t win on their record of stripping health care, tanking the economy and making families pay more with less,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement. “This is a last gasp of a desperate party clinging to power.”

“In New York, we’ll confront Trump’s legal insurrection head on,” she said. “We’ll meet him on the same field and beat him at his own game.”
