Tompkins places in two events at IESA boys’ Class 4A state track and field meet

Seventh-grader Jayvon Tompkins was a two-event placer on Saturday (May 20) for Mahomet-Seymour in the IESA boys’ Class 4A junior state track and field meet at Eastside Centre, in East Peoria.
Tompkins finished third in the discus with a toss of 121 feet. He notched a fourth-place finish in the shot put at 39 feet, 4 inches.
He accounted for all 11 points that the Bulldogs scored at state. M-S ended in 18th place. A total of 51 schools scored points in the seventh-grade portion of the Class 4A event.
The team state champion was East St. Louis Clark with 37 points.
Five other seventh-grade Bulldogs participated at state in individual events as did two of the school’s relays.
Grant Morphew – the lone sixth-grader in the pole vault competition – finished 14th at 7 feet, 6 inches. Also coming in 14th was Adam Smigielski in the 1,600 meters (5:04.45).
High jumper Noah Snyder took 23rd after clearing 4 feet, 11 inches.
The Bulldogs had two entries in the 800 meters. Dominic Gaudio ran 26th (2:24.14) and Liam Burwell took 28th (2:26.53).
The school’s best relay finish was a 21st in the 1,600-meter event. The foursome of Kiptyn Fan, Smigielski, Jude McWilliams and Snyder were timed in 4:12.45.
Headlining the 400-meter relay unit, which wound up in 25th, were Fan, McWilliams, Dylan Heckman and Snyder.

M-S had one competitor in the eighth-grade portion of the IESA Class 4A boys’ state finals.
Tate Bode placed 25th in the 800 meters (2:17.40).
