Three Bulldogs place in top 5 at Class 2A Regional

With three of the top five runners, Mahomet-Seymour outdistanced the field at Olney Central College on Saturday (Oct. 23) to win its eighth boys’ Class 2A regional cross-country title in the past 11 years.

On a day when all of the Bulldog runners were seniors, the team leaders were Joseph Scheele, Kyle Nofziger and Jonah Singer.

Scheele was the regional runner-up, clocking a 3-mile time of 15 minutes, 32.95 seconds. Nofziger was third (15:44.57) and Singer was fifth (15:59.62).

The other M-S scoring runners were John Tender (14th in 16:57.31) and Avery Seaman (23rd in 17:12.82).

The other Bulldog competitors in the 72-runner race were Gabe Wisnasky (24th in 17:21.37) and Karsten Waisath (30th in 17:31.45).

M-S’ team composite was 47 points. Runner-up Champaign Central had 81 points and third-place Urbana ended with a score of 86.

The Bulldogs are ranked fifth in the most-recent Class 2A state poll released by milesplit.com. Urbana was ranked 25th.

M-S will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 30) in the Decatur MacArthur Sectional at Hickory Point Golf Club.

Overall, the regional championship was the 14th for the Bulldogs in boys’ cross-country.
