Three Bulldogs finish season at e IWCOA Freshmen-Sophomore state tournament

Two of the three Mahomet-Seymour High School wrestlers who qualified for the IWCOA Freshmen-Sophomore state tournament won at least two matches and ended up one win shy of earning a state medal.
Sophomore A.J. Demos (145 pounds) posted back-to-back wins to reach the quarterfinals. His wins were by 11-0 and 5-0 decisions. He dropped an 8-2 decision in the quarterfinals and was later eliminated from medal consideration when he was pinned in 4:05 in the wrestlebacks.
Overall, Demos had a 33-8 overall record.
At 106 pounds, freshman Colton McClure bounced back from a first-round 4-2 loss to win three times in the consolation bracket, 6-2, 8-0 and by a 16-1 technical fall before ending his season with a 14-8 loss.
For the year, McClure had a 39-23 record.
The third freshmen-sophomore qualifier from M-S, freshman Noah Daniels (220 pounds), dropped narrow 6-3 and 4-0 decisions.
Daniels completed the year with a record of 22-14.
The two-day event ended on Sunday (March 12) at the BOS Center, in Springfield.
Each weight class had 32 competitors. In all, 211 Illinois high schools submitted entries.
