Christmas (and Santa Clause) is coming to downtown Mahomet December 1 through 3.
Local vendors have prepared a weekend of giving, holiday treats, kid’s activities, carolers and horse-drawn carriage rides.
The American Legion 1015 will open their doors from ice cream, root beer floats, cherry cokes, popcorn and a jukebox with songs from the 1940’s and 50’s all weekend long. Outside along Main Street, visitors will also be able to take a ride on a horse-drawn carriage, listen to Christmas songs or donate coats and mittens to Toys for Tots.
Santa Clause will arrive downtown on the Cornbelt Fire Truck at 6 p.m.
The Mahomet-Seymour Madrigals will perform from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., then Lance Meuser will perform from 7:15 to 8 p.m.
The newly renovated Sangamon on Main will host a children’s craft corner and children’s Christmas shop on Friday night. Children will also be able to get their picture taken with Santa Clause.
Santa will join children for breakfast and photos at Mahomet-Seymour High School on Saturday from 8 to noon. Tickets for one of the three hour-long sessions are available until November 29 at local banks.
The Mahomet-Seymour Drama Club will present “Wake Up Santa,” a student-led production at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on December 1. Tickets a $2 per person or $5 for a family of 4 or more. Cookies will be served after each showing.
The Mahomet Public Library invites community members to join them for “Make and Take Ornaments on December 2 from 9:30 to 1 p.m.The event always features a variety of ornaments, supplies and directions for guests who want to spend time together.
The Champaign County Forest Preserve will host “To Grandmother’s House We Go” on December 2 from 2 to 5 p.m. The Museum of the Grand Prairie gets cozy Christmas decorations and nineteenth century carolers and visitors are invited to experience a nostalgic make, wrap, and take home presents and decorations such as popcorn garland, chromolithograph ornaments for family and friends.
Before the day is over, Mahomet-Seymour residents are invited to visit the 37th Annual Boy Scout Tummy Warmer and Chili Dinner from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Cornbelt Fire Station.
Mahomet IGA will end the weekend with samplings of brownie bites, sushsi and adults spirits on Sunday. Floral Manager Spring Pirtle will be available to help kids decorate stocking cut outs to display in the floral department. IGA patrons will then have a chance to vote on their favorite stocking and prizes will be given to the winners.
