Mahomet-Seymour athletic director Matt Hensley said Monday night a change in coaches had been made for one of the Bulldogs’ spring-sports teams.
“Darren Tee was named interim coach (for girls’ track and field) today,” Hensley said.
He had no comment on the reasons why Hall of Fame coach Bonnie Moxley, who has held the position for the past 20 years, was no longer associated with the program.
“That’s a personnel matter,” Hensley said.
The job will be opened up once the outdoor track season ends in May.
“He (Tee) will fill it through the remainder of the track season, Hensley said, “and the (head coaching) position will be posted for next season.
When contacted Monday night, Moxley said, “No comment.”
Her M-S track and field teams have captured sectional championships 12 of the past 16 years. Three of her last seven girls’ cross-country teams have advanced to state.
Moxley, who previously announced she was retiring at the end of the school year, was not coaching at the unscored Indoor Apollo Conference meet last Saturday.
M-S had victories from its two girls’ distance relays.
The 1,600-meter foursome of Madi Balbach, Brisa McGrath, Olivia Bunting and Jessica Franklin was triumphant in a time of 4 minutes, 22.25 seconds.
The 3,200 unit of Balbach, Mara Pletcher, McGrath and Franklin was timed in 10:16.20.
Both relays established meet records.
Pletcher tied for the winning height in the pole vault (11 feet, 1 inch), but was placed second based on misses. The top two finishers both cleared 11-1 and are credited with sharing the meet record. The winner was Mount Zion’s Rhiannon Held.
In the boys’ portion of the indoor conference meet, the lone M-S champion was senior long jumper Matthew Maitlen, whose winning leap was 19-5.
