Teachers learn new science technology for the classroom
Educators throughout Central Illinois gathered at the Museum of the Grand Prairie for “Don’t Leaf Out Technology: Environmental Applications of STEM in the Classroom” on Friday.
The seven hour course presented by Stacey Clementz featured an award winning environmental education activity guide for second through eighth grade teachers with projects to use in the classroom.
Among other projects, teachers learned how to teach their students to measure trees using GPS and geometric shapes. They measured the height and width of the trunk, and also the canopy with this method. When the data is recorded, it can be shared with other students through technology.
The PreK-8 Environmental Education Activity Guide has been correlated to the Common Core Language Arts and Math educational standards.
