Taylorville hands M-S girls’ basketball first lost

Taylorville handed the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team its first loss on Friday (Dec. 17), 61-49, in an Apollo Conference game in Taylorville.
M-S trailed, 11-10, after one quarter, but the Tornadoes hit three three-pointers in the second quarter and opened up a 33-21 lead at halftime.
Ivie Juarez and Cayla Koerner were the Bulldogs’ scoring leaders, with 13 points apiece. Savannah Orgeron added nine points. Durbin Thomas hit eight points and Chloe Pruitt chipped in with six points.
Juarez pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. Abigail Bunting cleared seven rebounds and Thomas handled four rebounds. Koerner finished with six steals. Bunting had five steals.
Bunting and Alayna DeWitt each collected two assists.
M-S (11-1) returns to action on Monday (Dec. 27) in the Mattoon Holiday Tournament.
