Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin defeats Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball
By FRED KRONER
In Jessi Hurless’ first game as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball head coach on Thursday (Jan. 11), the Bulldogs dropped a 62-23 decision at home to Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin.
Hurless replaced Tom Garriott, who coached the first 21 M-S games. Garriott resigned, he said, after he “took on a new job.”
He last coached the Bulldogs on Tuesday (Jan. 9).
Against Sacred Heart-Griffin, Reese Gallier meshed a team-high eight points, including two baskets from three-point range.
Sidney Young dropped in four points, including 2-for-2 from the free throw line, extending her streak of consecutive makes to 12 over her last three games.
Grace Binkley, Selah Campion and Addie Lagacy all added three points. Campion and Lagacy each notched one three-pointer. Adaline Eisenmann tallied two points.
Sacred Heart jumped into a 16-5 first-quarter lead and expanded its bulge to 34-11 at halftime.
M-S (9-13) returns to action on Tuesday (Jan. 16) at Morton.
