Some Mahomet-Seymour parents are questioning whether or not to send their high school-aged students to school or not after a threat on social media was posted last night.
Superintendent Lindsey Hall sent an email early this morning stating that the district was aware of the threat made, and that the Mahomet Police Department and Champaign County Sheriff was involved immediately.
“The situation was addressed with the student,” Hall wrote. “The investigation is ongoing.
“I want to thank the students and others who brought this to our attention–reporting this type of situation is how it can be most quickly addressed and investigated. Threats such as these are investigated on a case by case basis, taking many factors and context into consideration.”
The post, which states:
“I’m so done with this world…
I be thinkin how do I tell the person who
borned me, that I don’t wanna live no more

The post itself, though, may have been another account of bullying in the Mahomet-Seymour School District. A father took to Facebook to say his step son’s account was hacked into. He added that his son has been harassed by a group of students who have taken advantage of him since the family moved to Mahomet.
He said that his son has autism and “has been a victim of constant threats and bullying” since the family moved to Mahomet.
“He doesn’t recognize sarcasm either, so for threats to be made to him jokingly or not seem very real to him. He also doesn’t understand when people don’t like him and are taking advantage,” the father wrote.
Mahomet-Seymour made the call to keep school open on Dec. 3.
“It is our judgment that it is safe for schools to be open today,” Hall wrote to parents. “There will be increased presence of law enforcement around our buildings out of an abundance of caution.
“Threats such as these are unnerving and very scary for everyone– even more so given the recent shooting in Oxford, Michigan. Please know this incident was and continues to be approached with the utmost of responsiveness and concern and again, immediate action involving law enforcement was taken.”
