Smith Twins Soar at IESA Track Meet: Cecily Wins Pole Vault, Finley Takes Third for Mahomet-Seymour

Mahomet-Seymour eighth-grade twins Cecily and Finley Smith placed first and third, respectively, in the Class 4A pole vault on Saturday (May 18) in the IESA Junior High girls’ track and field state meet.

Cecily Smith’s winning vault was 10 feet, 1 inch. In placing third, Finley Smith cleared 9 feet, 2 inches.

A year ago, Cecily Smith finished third at state after clearing 7 feet, 6 inches.

The Smiths were also part of a 1,600-meter relay which finished 10th at state with a time of 4:22.93. They were joined on the relay by Annie Clements and Marissa Thompson.

Thompson also scored points for the Bulldogs in the state meet held at the Eastside Centre, in East Peoria. She posted a personal-best 1:01.79 in the 400 meters and ended sixth.

In all, M-S registered a tie for 10th in the Class 4A team standings with 19 points. The team titlist was Frankfort with 61 points. Overall, 50 schools scored points at state.

Mahomet-Seymour seventh-grader Norelle Eilts recorded personal-best times in both of her individual races on Saturday (May 18) in the IESA girls’ Class 4A Junior High state track and field meet.

Eilts placed sixth in the 800 meters (2:29.34) and took 11th in the 1,600 meters (5:38.79).

Teammate Reagan Ericson also captured an 11th-place finish at state while competing in the discus (67 feet, 3 inches).

The Bulldogs tied for 41st in the seventh-grade team standings with three points. Team champion Mount Zion amassed 57 points. Overall, 53 schools scored points at state.
