Sims, Abramson, McGrath and Pletcher compete in IHSA State Track and Field Meet

Freshmen were the top two placers for Mahomet-Seymour in Saturday’s Class 2A girls’ track and field state meet at Eastern Illinois University, in Charleston.
Elizabeth Sims finished 14th in the 3,200 meters in a state field of 28 runners. Among freshmen at state in 2A, Sims was third. Her time was 12 minutes, 10.27 seconds.
Pole vaulter Cece Abramson was one of six competitors who cleared 11 feet. Based on misses, she ended 11th and was the second highest placing ninth-grader at state.
The top nine finishers in each event earned state medals.
The Bulldogs’ other Saturday participant was senior Brisa McGrath. She came in 18th in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:26.16.
Junior Mara Pletcher was a pole vault qualifier, but didn’t advance to the finals. In the prelims, she cleared 10 feet and ended in a tie for 17th at state. There were 30 Class 2A qualifiers in the pole vault.
