Severns picks up second shutout

Kate Severns fired her second shutout in four days on Wednesday (Aug. 18) as the Mahomet-Seymour junior high softball team held Jefferson scoreless in Champaign, 15-0.
Severns allowed one single and one walk while striking out seven in three innings.
She was backed by a defense that played errorless ball.
Brooklyn Dyer led M-S with two hits and four stolen bases. As a team, the Bulldogs swiped 19 bases.
M-S put the game out of reach with a nine-run second-inning uprising. Driving in runs in the inning were Olivia Minor, Brooklyn Tuttle, Addy Reigart, Severns, Madi Pilkington and Kalista Granadino.
On Monday (Aug. 16), the Bulldogs dropped a 13-1 decision at home to St. Joseph.
M-S was limited to four hits, one apiece by Pilkington, Ava Yeakel, Dyer and Minor.
Addison Schulze pitched the first four innings and fanned four batters. Reigart pitched 1 1/3 innings before Severns worked the final 2/3 of an inning.
M-S (2-4) returns to action on Wednesday (Aug. 25) at Clinton.
