By Fred Kroner
A total of 14 Mahomet-Seymour football players received recognition from the Apollo Conference on either the first-team or second-team when all-league honors were announced.
Seven Bulldogs earned first-team status and six were unanimous selections at their position.
Headlining the list of M-S honorees is senior noseguard Jack Gallier, a four-time first-teamer as a defensive lineman and a three-time unanimous pick.
Other M-S players on the all-league first-team defensive unit were middle linebacker Brock VanDeveer, a junior, free safety Donovan Lewis, a senior, and cornerback Colby Crowley, also a senior.
VanDeveer, Lewis and Crowley were all unanimous choices.
The Apollo’s offensive first team consisted of three Bulldog juniors: left tackle Kolton Metcalf-Polous, receiver Trey Peters and quarterback Luke Dyer.
Metcalf-Polous and Peters were unanimous selections.
Dyer’s selection marked the third year in a row that a quarterback from M-S was the Apollo all-conference first-teamer at the position.
The all-conference second team included four M-S athletes on offense and three on defense.
The defensive honorees were senior defensive end Jayvon Irwin, junior inside linebacker Ethan Esker and senior strong safety Tyler Majeres.
On offense, the list of M-S honorees included junior center Tyson Finch, sophomore right guard Noah Daniels, senior receiver Braden Pagel and senior running back Luke Johnson.
Johnson, who missed two games with an injury, was recognized for the third consecutive year by the conference. He was a first-teamer in 2021 and 2022.
M-S was undefeated in conference play, beating all five league opponents. Overall, the Bulldogs were 7-3.
