Selk hits third home run in M-S baseball win

Carter Selk slugged a home run for the third time in his last four games on Monday (April 4), but Mahomet-Seymour took a 6-2 baseball loss at Effingham St. Anthony.
Selk’s shot was a two-run blast that created a 2-2 fourth-inning tie.
Carter Johnson and Chase Wagers each finished with two hits for the Bulldogs. Braden Houchin had the other M-S hit.
Evan Ruzich pitched 4 2/3 innings for the Bulldogs and suffered the loss. He fanned two batters.
On Wednesday (April 6), the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader from Apollo Conference rival Lincoln at home, 7-1 and 12-2.
M-S players with hits in each game were Houchin, Alex McHale, Bryden Smith and Blake Wolters.
In the opener, Smith swatted three hits. Jaedon Lager drove in two runs and Jacob Waldinger tallied two runs.
In the nightcap, Wolters was 4-for-4 and Johnson added three hits. McHale drilled two hits.
Wolters bashed three doubles, scored three runs and knocked in four. Mateo Casillas, McHale and Waldinger all scored twice.
Waldinger stole a base in each game.
Wolters, who has not allowed an earned run in four pitching appearances, was the Game 1 winner. He fanned 10 in a two-hitter. In 18 innings this spring, Wolters (3-0) has struck out 37 and permitted five hits.
He pitched five innings. Casillas worked the last two innings and struck out four.
Zach Courson pitched 4 1/3 innings and earned the second-game win. He walked one and struck out six. McHale worked the final two-thirds of an inning and fanned one batter.
M-S (6-2) returns to action on Saturday (April 9) with a doubleheader at Effingham.
