Scouts from 30 MLB teams come to Mahomet-Seymour to watch Blake Wolters

Scouts from all 30 major league baseball teams were in Mahomet on Saturday to see two of the state’s top pitchers battle in an Apollo Conference showdown.
In the end, Effingham’s Josh McDevitt outdueled M-S senior Blake Wolters, 2-0, on a day Wolters’ pitches hit 99 mph on the radar gun. McDevitt’s velocity hit 96 mph.
Both runs that Wolters allowed were unearned. He walked three and struck out 11. He permitted two hits in 4 2/3 innings. Mateo Casillas pitched the final 2 1/3 innings and yielded one hit and one walk. He fanned two batters.
The Bulldogs were held hitless, but drew five walks. Wolters reached base twice via walks. He and Casillas each stole one base.
Alec Bergman fired a one-hitter in the nightcap as M-S prevailed 11-0. Bergman walked four and fanned eight in four innings. Mason Orton worked the final inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced.
Wolters paced the offense, going 3-for-3 with two home runs. He drove in five runs, the third time this spring he has put up a five-RBI game.
Tyson Finch and Finn Randolph each belted two hits. Finch knocked in two runs. Casillas tallied two runs.
For the season, Wolters is hitting .588, and 12 of his 20 hits have gone for extra bases. He has swatted six home runs to go with 10 stolen bases.
M-S (10-2) returns to action on Wednesday (April 12) at home against Oakwood.
