Ruzich wins at Apollo Conference meet

Senior Shaelin Ruzich was the only Mahomet-Seymour athlete to win an event in the girls’ Apollo Conference track and field meet on Thursday (May 20) at Mount Zion.
Ruzich was victorious in the pole vault after clearing 11 feet, 4 inches.
The Bulldogs placed fourth in the eight-school event. Meet champion Mount Zion amassed 182 points.
Effingham was in second place (79 points) followed by Charleston (71 ½ points) and M-S (69 points).
Hailee McCall-Ochs was the runner-up in the shot put (33 feet, 4 inches).
Ruzich was part of the second-place 400-meter relay, which also included Ariana Lingard, Meah Beacham and Lauren Burr. Their time was 52.55 seconds.
Elizabeth Sims was third in the 3,200 meters (12:55.10), Gwen Tee was third in the shot put (31 feet, 6 inches) and Cece Abramson was third in the pole vault (9 feet, 9 inches).
Other field event placers for the Bulldogs were Burr (fifth in the long jump, 15 feet) and McCall-Ochs (eighth in the discus, 71 feet, 6 inches).
M-S ended with double placers in two running events.
Emily Bednar was fifth (6:05.00) and Callie Jansen was sixth (6:07.00) in the 1,600 meters.
In the 800 meters, teammates Allen (2:38.15) and Ava Boyd (2:47.3) ran fifth and seven, respectively.
Lingard finished fourth in the 100 meters (13.24 seconds) and Hannah Hofbauer was ninth in the 200 meters (31.00 seconds).
The Bulldogs’ other points came in relay races.
The 800-meter foursome of Mallory Carr, Lingard, Beacham and Burr were third in 1:55.05.
Also placing third was the 3,200-meter grouping of Bednar, Boyd, Jansen and Allen. Their combined time was 10:57.83.
The M-S 1,600-meter unit wound up in fifth place. The runners were Beacham, Allen, Carr and Burr. Their time was 4:30.25.
M-S will return to action on Monday (May 24) at a quadrangular meet at Judah Christian.
