Ruzich finishes 8th in IHSA Class 2A girls’ state track and field meet

Senior Shaelin Ruzich was the lone state-placer for Mahomet-Seymour on Friday (June 11) in the Class 2A girls’ track and field meet at Eastern Illinois University, in Charleston.
Ruzich, who was seeded in a tie for fifth in the pole vault, placed eighth with a vault of 10 feet, 8 inches.
The two points she earned enabled M-S to finish in a tie for 49th in the Class 2A team standings. In all, 56 schools scored points at state.
Ruzich was also a finalist in the 300-meter hurdles. She placed 16th with a time of 51.08 seconds. She was seeded 13th in the event.
The Bulldogs had two other state-meet participants. Junior Elizabeth Sims ran a time of 12 minutes, 35.94 seconds in the 3,200 meters. She placed 19th, matching the position where she was seeded.
The school’s second pole vaulter, junior Cece Abramson, didn’t clear a height.
The Class 2A team champion was Chicago Latin (69 points) followed by Geneseo (60 points), Aurora Rosary (46 points) and Apollo Conference representative Mount Zion (44 points).
